For an aircraft mounted SAR and a particular set of measurements, it is often advantageous to know what the radar illumination was over a particular user defined area that has been divided into small computational increments (CI). This information can then be used in the image processing to both decrease the computation time and improve the image quality.  These calculations take into account the shape of the radar footprint and the radar orientation.

Two separate coverage calculations are performed: the radar coverage as a function of radar path and the coverage as a function of CI position.
